Went to New York! I went as part of my newspaper class for a journalism conference at Columbia University, but we also were able to do some sightseeing and fun stuff (like skating at the rink at the Rockefeller Center) and it was honestly so cool. I ate so much and talked a lot and had a lot of fun overall.

Read Lodestar, by Shannon Messenger! I’ve been keeping up with Shannon Messenger’s Keeper of the Lost Cities series since almost the beginning. Her books usually come out in November every year, so I always look forward to the one or two blessed days that I have in the year to read the book and fangirl over it all. Although I wasn’t able to go to her launch party, as I stated in one of my earlier posts, my dad ordered the book and I read it in a day or two. SO GOOD. I’m freaking out. Still freaking out. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (The inner middle schooler in me comes out so much whenever I read her books.)

Went to the gym 3 times in one week. Very proud of myself. I’ve gotten injured since, but this is an accomplishment for me. I feel really healthy.

Watched Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! Also freaking out over this, because I LOVE Harry Potter. The first thirty minutes or so annoyed me, admittedly--PORPENTINA IS SUCH A GOOSE, and SO IS KOWALSKI--but by the end I was tense and nervous in my seat. I’m not sure how I feel about the fact that they’re supposedly making four more movies after this one (???) but we’ll see. If JK Rowling keeps writing the scripts, I’ll go.

Read Illuminae. Can we just PLEASE talk about Illuminae???? I picked it up not really expecting much out of it, as I’m not a huge YA fan and hadn’t read Amie Kaufman before, but OH MY GOODNESS. Oh my GOODNESS. The book is written in an epistolary format, and my gosh, it PLAYS with you SO HARD. SO well-written, so beautifully done. I read in an e-book format, but I’m sure the printed version is a million times better. My brain is in literal pieces.

Also read Not If I See You First. Also great. It follows a protagonist who’s blind and very cut-to-the-chase and while she’s not the nicest person ever (she’s blunt to the point of insensitivity), I related to her harder than I’ve ever related to a character before (and I’m not kidding). She’s just so straightforward, I couldn’t help but like her. She doesn’t catch feelings very often, she doesn’t get swoony, and she’s pretty self-aware. Also too quick-witted for me.

Watched Matilda. Nobody in my family liked the movie except for me. I thought it was hilarious.

Went to a build-your-own pizza place with my friends and ate stuff. I love pizza.

I mostly read a lot and watched a lot. Just the typical stuff.

Being fairly uninspired. New York just sucked something out of me. I don’t know what it is, but if I have to go back there to find it, I’m gonna do it. I feel, quite honestly, like a blank slate that used to have curlicues and chalk drawings on it but got wiped clean by some unknown demon.

Finishing HaNaNoWriMo. Five thousand words left! Come on, Rachel, you can do this!

Limping. Somehow I injured my left leg, and it hurts like crazy whenever I move it. So I’ve been limping everywhere. Pray for me.

Tweeting. Kind of. I got back on Twitter the day of the election because I had a lot of fomo (fear of missing out). I’m regretting the decision, and am considering another break.

More college applications. Harvard, Columbia, and Northwestern. Then I’ll be done.

HOMEWORK, COLLEGE APPS (Self explanatory)

GET A JOB. I need money. I picked up an application for Home Goods the other day, but I’m also considering Chick-fil-a. Home Goods is closer, but I’ll probably be bored to death. Which one?

Finish my book. I’m really glad I’m writing again, but it’s slow going. I only plotted half of it before plunging into HaNaNoWriMo, so part of the slow pace is because I still need to define stuff that happens later in the book. (Curse my laziness, lol.)

EAT HEALTHIER. This was on my need-to-do list last month. Still haven’t done it. WILL BE DOING IT (probably not...we’re in the holiday season so I’m officially CURSED!!)

Decorate for Christmas! Since this is my last year in my bedroom (crazy to think about), I want to turn my bedroom into a winter wonderland. Ideas?

Basically all of Colbie Caillat’s album Gypsy Heart
“My Shot” (Hamilton Mixtape version)
“Faith” by Stevie Wonder and Ariana Grande (from the Sing soundtrack)
“I’m Ready” by AJR
“Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing” by Tori Kelly (from the Sing soundtrack)
“How Far I’ll Go” by Alessia Cara (from the Moana soundtrack)
“Ocean Eyes (Blackbear Remix)” by Billie Eilish and Blackbear

How was November for you? What are you excited about for December?
