Night is for the young.

We stay up late, despite our parents’ wishes, eight o’clock bedtimes a thing of the past. Rolling around in shopping carts with our friends, blasting music too loud in the car, laughing about stupid things because we’re deliriously deliciously tired and we love it.
Writing papers due at twelve a.m. sharp, procrastinating on projects and finishing them in the wee hours of the morning, brains fueled by caffeine, sugar, and five-hour energy.
Facing the ceiling, trying to sleep but not able to, thinking about things that you never think about when it’s bright and light out. Everything is closed in suburbia except your Thought Shop.
Talking to people, friends, who either care about you or will soon enough. Insecurities come out to play. We tell each other things, whispered so our parents won’t wake up.
Falling asleep to soft R&B and alternative and indie music, lulled by the ebb and flow of the sound waves.
Or not simply not sleeping at all.
This is night.
